Farewell
With sorrow falling on me now
I trace your initials on the glass
So frozen in my solitude
And cringing at all needy tasks
Your face has crawled up to the moon
To glow with messages profound
First looking at me as to speak
Then never uttering a sound
All other yearnings are hollowed cold
My figuring has all run dry
Persevering has grown old
I simply shut my eyes and sigh
And there my piano beckons me
I often see it turn to dust
Then blow away the powdered tunes
Haunting refrains roll into crust
So shaken in this pattern of
Your words that still speak of our dreams
And though I’ve sewed it to look new
You fray it and rest in the seams
Hanging higher, you’re smiling now
There inside my solemn impressions
Farewell, my love, I long for sleep
And I shall toss with that intention
